ABOUT REBECCA DROBIS

Heart Butte, Montana, September 2010 Piegan Pass, Glacier National Park, July 2011

For over a decade, Rebecca Drobis has returned to explore and photograph on the Blackfeet Reservation in northwest Montana. Initially, the impressive mountains of Glacier National Park drew her to the reservation, but the children living in the shadow of those peaks keep her going back. In addition to her own work, Rebecca is devoted to teaching photography to kids living on the reservation.

Rebecca is based in Washington DC, where she focuses on youth, family and community issues. Selected clients include The Washington Post Magazine, The Discovery Channel, Disney, Blurb, Garden & Gun Magazine, The National 4-H Council, VCU Children’s Hospital, The Environmental Defense Fund and The American Cancer Society. Her images have also appeared in National Geographic Magazine, National Geographic Little Kids Magazine and The Los Angeles Times. She graduated from Duke University where she studied documentary film and art history.

Rebecca’s photographs have been exhibited both nationally and internationally including at the Ring Cube gallery in Tokyo, Japan.

She was honored by the American Society of Media Photographers in their Best of 2013 competition. Other selected honors include the Gold Prize by Graphis Photography Annual and the Silver Prize by FotoWeek DC. Rebecca was recently profiled by Communication Arts Magazine’s Fresh Online—a feature showcasing up and coming artists. In 2011, Photo District News named her one of the 30 Emerging Photographers to watch.

The Grown Up West project has been featured on Yahoo Global News, High Country News, as well as the UK’s Daily Mail.
